Sunderland In the final of Capital One Cup Championship after knocking out Manchester United
Manchester United were knocked out of the Capital One Cup in dramatic fashion as Sunderland edged a tense penalty shoot-out to reach the final.
United had made it 2-2 on aggregate with Jonny Evans’s first-half header but David De Gea spilled Phil Bardsley’s shot into his own net in the last minute of extra-time, and Javier Hernandez’s tap-in forced penalties.
Seven spot kicks were missed as Sunderland triumphed 2-1 and will face Manchester City on 2 March.
