State FA chairmen meet in Abuja Friday over court order on NFF board
Football Association chairmen of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are due to meet in Abuja on Friday, the News Agency of Nigeria gathered on Thursday.
Their meeting is sequel to a Jos, Plateau State court order restraining the Nigeria Football Federation board; its Chairman, Aminu Maigari; as well as the association’s Congress from parading themselves as the leadership of the NFF.
NAN gathered further that the meeting is being summoned by the newly-appointed NFF acting Secretary-General, Lawrence Katken.
A source at the NFA Glass House secretariat told NAN on condition of anonymity that issues to be discussed include the association’s board elections scheduled for late August.
“Another matter to be discussed is the cancellation or renewal of the contract of the Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi,” the source said.
NAN reports that Justice P.L. Lot of a High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State had on Wednesday granted an Order of Interlocutory Injunction restraining the NFF board from performing its duties.
Maigari, his board members, as well as the NFA Congress were restrained by the court from running the affairs of Nigerian football pending the determination of the Motion on Notice.
Lot had asked the Minister of Sport, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, to, pending the determination of the suit, appoint the most senior civil servant in the NFF to take charge of affairs.
This had led to the appointment of Katken by Danagogo.
Katken is the current Secretary of the Nigeria National League.
NAN reports that the present NFA board came into office on August 26, 2010 for a four-year term.
