Source: Special Victims Prosecutor Assigned in Patrick Kane Investigation
The NHL confirms to Time Warner Cable News that the league is aware of a police investigation involving Chicago Blackhawks star and Hamburg native Patrick Kane.
The vice president of communications for the NHL said they are following the developments, and will provide updates as they come in.
According to a source, a prosecutor has been assigned to this case. Rosanne Johnson, Chief of the Erie County District Attorney’s Special Victims Bureau, will take it on. She handles high-profile sexual crime cases.
Hamburg Police Department’s chief says says he will not confirm or deny an investigation into Kane is underway. However, a legal source tells TWC News that evidence has been removed from Kane’s home.
The Blackhawks released the following statement: ‘We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.’
Kane’s agent has not returned emails or calls for comment.
At Kane’s house on the banks of Lake Erie, no one was answering the intercom on Thursday and most of the shades are drawn.
Kane has won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks, including one this past season.
According to a representative from the Hockey Hall of Fame, the plan still is to deliver the Stanley Cup to Kane this weekend. The Hall Of Fame says it won’t change its plans unless it hears from the team.
South Buffalo eatery Imperial Pizza said Kane was planning to bring it by Saturday, but said now that’s unlikely.
This wouldn’t be his first brush with the law. In August 2009, he was charged after attacking a cab driver in downtown Buffalo.
Kane’s attorney from that case, Paul Cambria, said Thursday, “I cannot confirm nor comment at this time.”
