Following the production of the ‘Sound of Music Live!’,the Stage adaptation of the 1965 classic movie ‘Sound of Music’, which is the true story of a widowed Austrian Captain who married his children’s Governess and escaped to Switzerland with his family during the World War II so as to save their lives from the Hitler Regime, the real Von Trapp family have revealed they didn’t want Country singer, Carrie Underwood playing the role of the Family Matriarch, Maria.

Myles von Trapp Derbyshire, the great grandson of Maria von Trapp, expressed his disappointment in NBC’s casting, saying: “It’s just upsetting that this could potentially be the final broadcast of our story, And although her voice is amazing, she doesn’t have acting experience … It’s just the overall image, she’s a country star, she won ‘American Idol,’ she’s very public in kind of a tabloid way.” Derbyshire, a 28-year-old New Yorker, said the family had gotten together earlier and chose Anne Hathaway to play the role portrayed by Julie Andrews in th original classic movie. “Here’s someone who just won an Oscar for a similar situation [in “Les Miserables”]. She was able to act and sing,” he said. His aunt, Francoise von Trapp, even blogged about the casting decision a few days before the live show. “Carrie Underwood as Maria? Seriously? I mean, I have nothing against her personally — she’s an extremely talented country singer, but I’m pretty sure my father is repeatedly rolling over in his grave.” Not surprisingly, The Von Trapps aren’t the only people who threw shade at Underwood’s performance. The Grammy winner declared that she had received hate mail after the show, and social media, Twitter was alive with the criticism during NBC’s special programming, although tv ratings were high.
