Sophia, World’s first robot citizen is visiting India in February
Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen is all set to make a visit to India. The humanoid is expected to make a public appearance in 22nd edition of the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT). The WCIT will be hosted by WITSA, NASSCOM and Telangana Government.
This is the first time that India is going to host global tech event. According to WCIT Hyderabad Ambassador, The robot is constantly and quick learning. “The robot is constantly learning very quickly; every time it makes a public appearance, apparently it’s smarter than the previous time,” WCIT Hyderabad Ambassador Suman Reddy said.
Sophia, all you need to know
Sophia was developed by a Hong Kong-based company named Hanson Robotics. It was activated on April 19, 2015. Her first public appearance was at South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in mid-March 2016 in Austin, Texas, United States. She is able to display more than 62 facial expressions.
Sophia got the Saudi Arabian citizenship in October 2017. She is the first robot to receive the citizenship of any country in the world. Sophia has participated in many high-profile interviews. Watch the above interview video of Sophia.
World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) 2018
In WCIT 2018 the sessions will be mainly on artificial intelligence and blockchain technology. There will be around 22 sessions on contemporary technology. The topics covered are artificial intelligence, the blockchain technology, new globalization, innovation and the future of work.
Schedule of the event is February 19th – 21st 2018 HICC Hyderabad India. Executives from the top global companies will speak at the event. The top institutions to make a presence at WCIT are Adobe Systems, Coursera, Isha Foundation, Cornell University, Honeywell, Novartis, and Standard Chartered Bank.
The first WCIT was held in 1978. The Telangana government will host the WCIT 2018 in partnership with World Information Technology & Services Alliance (WITSA). The next WCIT will be held in Armenia.
