Son Kills Father In Lagos Over A Piece Of Land

A 41-year-old man, Yusuf Akinbiyi was yesterday remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons by an Ebute-Meta Chief ‎magistrate’s court, for allegedly killing his 86-year-old father, Agboola Akinbiyi.

Akinbiyi, who resides at Madon village, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, according the prosecutor, Inspector Frank Inah is facing a one count charge of murder.

He said the accused person committed the offence on May 21 at about 11.05 p.m. at the deceased’s residence.

Prosecutor submitted that the deceased and the accused lived together, adding that the deceased had provided for the accused as he had no job.

“The accused wanted to sell his father’s land to enable him travel out of the country, but his father held on to the documents.

“Accused and the deceased had an argument during which the accused beat the deceased with his hands and covered his mouth and nostrils with pillow,” Inspector Inah said, and added that this made the accused’s father to suffocate to death.

Akinbiyi was later arrested by the Police.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Magistrate, Miss A.O. Komolafe, who rejected the accused’s plea, ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions and subsequently adjourned the case till August 11 for mention.
