Sokoto State Government to Withhold Salaries of Striking Academic Staff
Sokoto State government has threatened the academic staff of its three tertiary institutions with the imposition of the ‘no work, no pay’ policy after they started an indefinite strike on Friday.
The staff of Shehu Shagari College of Education, the state polytechnic and School of Legal Studies embarked on industrial action to protest the implementation of the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPACSS).
The Head of Service, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, disclosed to newsmen, that the management of the schools had been ordered to start taking roll call of their staff in order to identify those who abscond from their duty posts for onward sanctions.
He also said the striking staff should be grateful that their salaries are paid promptly unlike so many states.
He however assured them that their demands would be met as soon as the economy improves while also stating that the government will immediately start the implementation of the ‘no work, no pay’ policy if the lecturers did not suspend their strike.
