Seven PDP Ekiti State Lawmakers Impeach Speaker
Seven members of the Ekiti state House of Assembly belonging to the Peoples’ Democratic Party have impeached Honourable Adewale Omirin and elected Honourable Dele Olugbemi as the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly.
The PDP lawmakers on Thursday, held a sitting to elect a new speaker and other principal officers while 19 lawmakers belonging to the All Progressives Congress were in Lagos, for a press conference.
The lawmakers had elected Olugbemi as acting speaker on Monday during a sitting without the speaker. They claimed he was only appointed to preside over the emergency meeting in the absence of the substantive speaker and his deputy.
The lawmakers were escorted into the state Assembly Complex by Mobile Police Commander, Selenkere Michael. The police reportedly prevented the 19 other lawmakers, including the substantive speaker, from entering the Assembly Complex.
