The resumption of the Nigerian Senate scheduled for Tuesday has now been shifted to Wednesday in order to accommodate President Goodluck Jonathan’s formal declaration for a second term bid.

This was revealed by the Clerk of the House of Assembly, Benedict Efeturi, on Monday. Although he did not give reasons for the postponement, it was gathered from sources that the decision was made so that the senators will be free to attend the declaration event at Eagles Square, Abuja on Tuesday.

According to reports, a source within the National Assembly said, “Since the House of Representatives is not in session, although for other reasons, it will not augur well for the Senate to be in session tomorrow, when the President would be making his official declaration for a second term in office at a venue that is less than 400 meters away  from the Senate.”

The senators are now to resume plenary on Wednesday by 10:00am.
