Contrary to expectation of the Nigeria ruling party, All Progressives Party, APC, on Tuesday, 81 Senators passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki  and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
This development came through a motion moved by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, representing Imo East at the red chamber seconded by Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi West.
Senator Anyanwu while moving the motion‎ said: “Considering the sustained interference in the internal affairs of the senate by detractors and media propaganda against the senate and senators by selfish politicians, I therefore move to call on the senate to pass a vote‎ of confidence on the senate president, deputy senate president and the entire senate leadership as presently constituted”.‎
The motion, which was in obvious response to the investigations of Ekweremadu and the National Assembly bureaucracy over the allegations of forgery of Senate Standing Orders as well as recent moves by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to investigate Toyin, the wife of the Senate President, was adopted by 81 Senators.
