Senator Ayogu Eze Refutes Plans to Withdraw from Enugu Governorship Race
Senator Ayogu Eze, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representing Enugu North Senatorial District, has denied reports that he has withdrawn from the Enugu State governorship race.
Eze, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, said: “I wish to state clearly and unambiguously that I’ve not and will not step down for any anointed candidate. I ‘m still squarely in the race for the Enugu Lion Building in 2015”.
Eze also said although he was at the meeting in which a sole candidate for the election was picked, he would still contest for a chance to replace Governor Sullivan Chime as the most powerful man in the state.
The senator said he was invited to the meeting at the Governor’s Lodge and was not informed about the intention to pick a consensus candidate from the people who attended the meeting. He also said that during the meeting, he made it clear that he did not agree with the terms of the consensus.
“Democracy is about elections and the will of the people, those elements of democracy will be put to test when we arrive the field for the primaries”, he said.
Eze also stated that he will gladly accept the outcome of the primary election and support the candidate who emerges.
“Let me state categorically that my respect for the governor and leader of PDP in Enugu State is not diminished in anyway by this development. My loyalty to the party is also unalloyed.”
