Senate Summons Jega over INEC’s Preparations
The Nigerian Senate has summoned the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Attahiru Jega, to appear before it on Wednesday in order to ascertain the commission’s preparation towards the general elections.
This was decided after the senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, stated that it was important for Jega to brief the senators on how the card readers would work.
The Minority Leader of the House, Senator George Akume, also. Proposed that the three service chiefs whose stance to not release soldiers on February 14, leading to the postponement of the polls, be summoned.
The House eventually ruled that the invitation of service chiefs would be determined by Jega’s submission after his appearance before the senators.
