Senate Sets up Committee To Re-appraise NASS Budget

Nigerian Senate has set up an ad-hoc committee to re-appraise the structure of the National Assembly budget by making it more open and ensure that the parliament’s budget is in line with economic realities.
NASS Chairman, Senator Bukola Saraki, announced this on Tuesday at the resumption of plenary after a two-week recess.
At the resumption of plenary, the Senate President addressed the issue of allowances of the Federal lawmakers, which had becomes a serious issue and media war in the country.
According to Saraki, setting up the committee was in response to media reports of the last few days on the allowances of lawmakers.
Announcing the immediate composition of the. 18-man committee, comprising of 3 senators from each geopolitical zone, the Senate President said, the Senate must rise to address the nagging problem.
According to him, the committee are to immediately draw up a legislative agenda for the Eight Senate within a week to give the Senate focus and cohesion in pursuing its targets.
