Senate Finally Screens Amaechi As PDP Senators stage walk out
The Senate on Tuesday finally screened former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, whose nominee has been generating controversy. The screening which was almost marred with chaos witnessed a walk out of some PDP senators.
The PDP caucus in the Senate led by the Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio shocked Nigerians when he informed the Senate that the caucus have decided not to ask any question from Amaechi since the report of the ethnic committee of the Senate which looked into the allegations laid against him has not been circulated. Senate Majority Ali Ndume wanted Amaechi to take a bow and leave due to the fact that he was a lawmaker, having been elected the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly before being elected Governor. His position almost led to confrontation with some PDP Senators who felt that Amaechi was being unduly pampered. Some PDP senators later walked out.
When asked by Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna State about corruption, Amaechi said it would amount to wild goose chase to give a definite answer as corruption is multi-faceted . He however said he was never indicted by the panel set up by his predecessor, Governor Nyesom Wike. He said he was ready to submit the report if the Senate would allow him. He added that he has never taken bribe.
After answering few more questions from APC Senators, Amaechi was asked to take a bow and leave.
