S/Court verdict: Vindication of legality of rule of law – Nweke
Chief Emmanuel Nweke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Supreme Court verdict on Anambra as a vindication of legality of the rule of law.
Nweke, a beneficiary of the judgment and PDP’s candidate for Awka North and South Federal Constituency in the March 28, 2015 polls, made this known in Awka on Saturday.
He said the judgment, which recognised the Chief Ejike Oguebego-led executive was a vindication of legality of the rule of law in the country.
He said that though the judgment came as a rude shock to many, it was long expected by those who were aware of the ‘rascality’ witnessed in Anambra PDP in the past.
Nweke said he would fulfil his campaign promises of access to education for the indigent youths, healthcare for rural and pregnant women and good roads.
He lauded the judiciary in Nigeria for proving itself to be the true temple of justice.
“With this judgment we are the true candidates of the party and we hope to be accordingly treated.
“I stand by my campaign promises to the people of Awka North and Awka South.
“I shall not only give quality representation but ensure that there is increased access to education for the youth and healthcare for our women.
“It is justice for everyone, the judiciary has corrected the impunity that has been all the while.
“I thank everyone who identifies with this change, especially the people of my constituency,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the apex court on Jan. 29 ruled that the Oguebego-led fPDP was the authentic executive in Anambra.
It sacked the Chief Ken Emeakayi-led executive, which nominated the three senators and 11 House of Representatives members fielded by Emeakayi-led PDP in the National Assembly. (NAN)
