Anambra State Police Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS have arrested a man who have been supplying weapon to a robbery gang.
According to a Police Situation Report, SITREP, SARS operatives had arrested a robbery suspect and during interrogation led Police to the hideout of the illegal weapon supplier to his robbery gang.
The said supplier was arrested at the hideout located at Lilu in Ihiala LGA of the state with one Pump Action gun with 41 cartridges, one English-made Double Barrel gun, and one Locally-made Single Barrel gun.
Also, SARS operatives on patrol along Igbodo Market road ran into a road blockage put in place by hoodlums who were met robbing innocent motorists.
A shootout ensued between the Police and the hoodlums, two of the armed robbery suspects (male) were apprehended after sustaining gunshot wounds while other gang members fled the scene with bullet wounds.
Two Revolver pistols and seven rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the arrested suspects.
According police SITREP, sum of One hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N150,000) cash being money earlier snatched from victims were recovered.
All victims met at the scene were safely rescued, by the SARS, while two injured arrested suspects were rushed to the hospital for medical attention but doctors pronounce both of them dead on arrival.
Their corpses were deposited at the mortuary, while police has commenced investigation to apprehend other fleeing gang members who are carrying gunshot injuries.
In a related development, police stop and search team along Ajaokuta – Geregu – Itobe Road on 23rd August, 2015 at about 4.30am intercepted an earlier reported snatched Toyota Yaris vehicle (reg. no withheld).
The vehicle was earlier reported snatched in Abuja by three armed men. After interrogation by vigilant officers, the three men were arrested with the vehicle and taken to the station from where they were taken to State CIID, Lokoja for further investigation.
