Salako Says Each Item Represents Commitment To Life, Dignity of Women As FG Donates 10,000 Professional Kits to Midwives in Southeastern Nigeria
The Federal Government through the Renewed Hope Initiative of the office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday distributed 10,0000 professional kits to midwives in the south east region of Nigeria. The event which was held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, had in attendance the Fist lady, Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State and his wife, wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and wives of state governors. Speaking at the event, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, noted that each one of the item represents a commitment to life, health and dignity of women as well as children.
In his speech at the event which was made available to nigerianecho.com.ng by Agba’kin Wale Junaid, his Special Assistant on Media and Strategy, Salako commended the First Lady for her unwavering health initiatives, particularly in tackling tuberculosis, cervical cancer, and HIV/AIDS. He described her support as pivotal to the ongoing reforms in the nation’s healthcare system.
He said the the office of the First lady through Renewed Hope Initiative has distributed professional kits to 60,000 midwives in the six geopolitical zones of the country covering about 40% of all registered midwives in Nigeria thus creating a large pool of motivated and empowered professionals to deliver on the agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reduce MMR and U5MR by 20 & 15% respectively by 2027.
“Each item in the kit you are being given today represents a commitment to life, to health and to the dignity of our women and children. I urge you to deploy the kits for the purpose they are meant for with all sense of responsibility and full commitment to the Florence Nightingale pledge that you all took as nursing professionals.”
The Minister enumerated achievements under the Renewed Hope Initiative, “In 2 years, the Tinubu government has established 12 new Federal Tertiary Hospitals, employed over 15,000 health workers, delivered over 500 high impact infrastructural projects in our hospitals, grown health insurance coverage by over 15%, train over 60,000 frontline health workers, upgraded over 1000 PHCs ( with about 3000 others ongoing), disbursed over N86b to BHCPF and vaccinated over 14 million girls against HPV just to mention a few.”
Salako said Nigeria’s journey to greatness has begun. “We have a President who is focused, visionary and courageous, working seamlessly with our subnational governments and sure-footedly taking Nigeria forward. I call on us to continue to work in tandem with the Renewed Hope Agenda for the betterment of our country.”
He specially saluted the midwives working in the frontline ensuring that women get pregnant and goes through pregnancy healthy and deliver healthy babies. He noted that the Federal Government appreciates their invaluable service to the country and he promised a continuous support for them with needed tools, welfare packages and all enablement to perform their duties successfully.
