Wayne Rooney has insisted that there is no sense of panic in the Manchester United squad despite their shaky start to the season.

United’s new captain, who was sent off in their 2-1 win over West Ham on Saturday afternoon, said that Louis van Gaal’s faith in players gives them the confidence to play well.

Although United has had a rough start this season, having won just two of their opening six Premier League games under the Dutchman’s leadership, Rooney insists that van Gaal’s methods and experience can take them back to their old winning ways.

He said: “He’s incredible, how he sees the game and how he goes into so much detail. How he makes you feel when you’re playing. He puts so much confidence into you but if you’re not playing well he lets you know too.

“Every training session is recorded and when we watch them back it’s incredible what you can learn. We haven’t had the start we wanted but we’re not a million miles away. There’s been panic from everyone except us. When I look at the players in the dressing room and the manager’s experience I’ve no doubts whatsoever that he will be successful here.

“He’s a very clear communicator and he’s been like that with me, with the rest of the team, since day one and I don’t think that will change.”
