Rivers State Police Command Gives Condition For Opening Assembly

The Rivers State Police command has emphasised its earlier statement that it will not open the Rivers State House of Assembly pending the time it Police Mohammed Abubakargets a certified copy of the Abuja Federal High Court judgment ordering for the opening of the assembly.

This was made known to newsmen by the state Police’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Mohammad in a press briefing shortly after some lawmakers went to the State CID to sign an undertaking of good conduct.

He said that the police were doing everything necessary to ensure that the Assembly was safe for the lawmakers when they eventually resume sitting and that anti-bomb squads, sniffer dogs and C4i sections of the Command had been deployed to sweep the Assembly complex to ensure that there are no lethal objects in the assembly.

Meanwhile, the PPRO stated that the police are not interested in who is the authentic speaker of the House, describing it as an internal affair of the lawmakers, but went on to warn them that the police would not hesitate to enforce the law on any of them who posed trouble in the Assembly.

He also warned youths to desist from being used by politicians in the state, stressing that they were endangering their lives.
