Reps Wade Into Doctors Strike
By Suleiman Bello
As the nation starts recording casualties at our hospitals due to nation wide strike embarked upon by NMA, Nigeria House of Representatives Committee on Health has been mandated by the House to wade into the industrial crisis pitting the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) against the Federal Ministry of Health.
The House acting on a motion on ‘urgent need to resolve the crisis in the health sector’ moved by the Minority Whip, Hon. Samson Osagie (APC,Edo), ordered its committee on Health find amicable ways of resolving the ongoing strike and report back to it within one week.
The House also urged the NMA and its members to call off the action they embarked upon since Tuesday.
It appealed to the Federal Government to do everything possible as a matter of utmost urgency to have the crisis abated in the interest of the citizens of the country.
NMA had on Tuesday embarked on an indefinite strike, following the expiration of a two-week ultimatum it gave the Federal Government to meet its 24-point demand.
