Prison Break: Joyce Mitchell Pleads Guilty as Part of Plea Deal
The woman believed to be Richard Matt and David Sweat’s main accomplice was arraigned Tuesday morning in Clinton County Court, reports TWC News.
According to the report, Prison seamstress Joyce Mitchell was seen tearing up as she signed papers in court Tuesday.
Mitchell entered into a plea agreement that results in her admitting guilt to helping convicted killers Sweat and Matt escape from Clinton Correction Facility last month. The prison break set off a three-week-long manhunt across the North Country.
She pleaded guilty to promoting prison contraband and criminal facilitation.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie announced the plea agreement that would prevent her from facing further charges — including conspiracy to kill her husband. She faces a sentencing of 2 1/3 to 7 years for promoting prison contraband. She will also have to pay fines.
