President Goodluck Jonathan has promised that if re-elected, he will grant the South-East a new state so as to be on par with other geopolitical zones in the country.

The president met with the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers on Tuesday at the secretariat of Owerri, and said that since each of the six geo-political zones in the country has six states except South-East, which has five states while North-East has seven.

He also thanked the people of the zone for their support while also soliciting their votes, prayers and support ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections.

The Chairman of the traditional rulers’ council, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, told the president that South-Easterners want additional states and will continue to support his leadership.
