President Jonathan Commends OAU for Being Best University in Nigeria for Third Consecutive Year
President Goodluck Jonathan has urged Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities to ensure that internal security is heightened in their institutions to guard lives of students against the violent threats.
President Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, stated this at the 40th Convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife in Osun state.
The president also bemoans the falling educational standard in the country as no university in Nigeria had been ranked globally among the best 100 universities in the world.
He said: “You should strengthen the internal governance structures of the institutions and should create new ones if necessary to make them more sensitive and responsible to the needs and demands of staff, students and other stakeholders’’
Also in his statement, President Jonathan commended OAU for having the best distance learning centre, cloud computing and telepresence facilities in the entire Nigerian university system, while also applauding the university’s achievement of a third consecutive title as the best university in Nigeria by the Webometric ranking.
