Power Sector: SSACTC faults privatization exercise
Senior Staff Association of Communications, Transport and Corporations has criticized the recently-concluded privatization of the power sector, insisting that it had not achieved the desired result of constant electricity generation and distribution.
President General of SSACTC, Mr. Mohammad Yunusa, made this statement in an interview with journalists in Abuja.
Yunusa also regretted that the reform in the power, postal, telecommunications, railways, housing, and maritime sectors had not been well thought out, hence their failure to achieve the best results for Nigerians.
“So far, the privatisation processes in the power and telecommunications are yet to achieve much except the clear handing over of our joint patrimonies at little or no costs to the favoured high directly or indirectly as the case in other developed and developing economies.
“Let us warn that the approval of partial commercialisation of NIPOST must move clear from this disturbing past and build a new NIPOST in terms of infrastructure and staff to meet our needs.” He said, and concluded that as the nation celebrate yet another workers’ Day ritual, government pay more attention to the development roads and railways to meet the need of the biggest economy in Africa as reflected in the new GDP status”, he stated
