Police promotes officers killed in Damaturu explosion

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has approved the post-humous promotion of three police officers who were killed in the suicide bombing at police checkpoint in Damaturu, Yobe State on Monday.

The IGP also ordered the Medical Department of the Police to foot the medical bill of the injured officer.

He also said, the four children each of the deceased officers are to be offered scholarship up to secondary school level.

The families of the deceased, according to him will also be afforded priority in the budding Police Housing Scheme.

The police boss who made these statements through the Police spokesman, DCP Emmanuel Ojukwu, also salutes the courage and gallantry displayed by officers of the Yobe State Police Command in containing the menace of insurgency in the State.

According to Ojukwu, the IGP, “is highly pleased that in spite of imminent challenges, the officers exhibited a high sense of patriotism and dedication to duty.”

The police boss who was full off regret over the death in active service of the three officers, however, observed that but for the indomitable spirit, sacrifice and professionalism of the deceased officers, the terrorists would have detonated the explosives in a high profile target.
