Police nab woman, 8 others over robbery, kidnapping in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command said on Thursday that they had arrested 11 persons in connection with robbery, kidnapping and car theft in the State.
The command spokesman, DSP Ahmad Muhammad who announced this when he briefed newsmen in Port Harcourt onbehalf of the state commissioner of police, Mr Tunde Ogunsakin said four of the suspects, including a woman, were arrested in connection with kidnapping.
According to him, the five other suspects were arrested in connection with robbery while two were being held for car theft.
The commissioner said the command was committed to fighting crime in the state as he revealed that one locally made revolver pistol, one marathon pistol and one assault rifle were recovered from the suspects.
Others recovered items include, two magazines, one pump action gun, 22 live cartridges and three motorbikes, among others.
Mr Ogunsakin said the robbery suspects had terrorised Alu, Diobu and Trans-Amadi areas of Port Harcourt.
He said the kidnap suspects had planned to kidnap one Miss Prosper Awara, the daughter of Chief Sebiobo Awara, before they were arrested.
The police boss said, the suspects had confessed to the crime and appealed to the public to furnish the police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals.
