Police Minister lives in illusion – APC
Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned recent statement credited to Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan, that the state government led by Rauf Aregbesola “has brought untold hardship to the people of Osun”.
The party described the remark as “the product of a sick mind totally unfit to occupy the esteemed position he holds as a federal minister”.
APC described Adesiyan as one of those who live in the delusion of Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) lies in the state.
The minister had been reported as saying that “rather than concentrate on how to better the lives of the people of the state, Aregbesola has resorted to blackmail and campaign of calumny ahead of the next governorship election”.
He was further reported to have accused Aregbesola of being the “man who came from Lagos in 2007 and threw a bomb to destroy innocent workers at ABEREORAN …”
However, the APC said Adesiyan’s account of the 2007 bomb incident is a typical PDP falsehood, and its usual antics of accusing opponents “of being perpetrators of criminal actions of the PDP itself”.
What actually happened, APC explained in 2007, was that a car believed to be occupied by four suspects exploded at the car park of the Ministry of Water Resources at Abere, the state government secretariat.
“Of the four people believed to be in the vehicle, one died, two others escaped and the fourth lost an eye from the blast. He was arrested by the Police and charged to court.
“But rather than the suspect being remanded in prison custody, he was ‘detained’ in a guest house within Government Lodge at Okefia.
“There was no record of this suspect being brought into prison custody until November 26, 2010, the very day the PDP government was sacked by the highest Court of Appeal in Nigeria on electoral matters,” APC noted.
It wondered why the Police Affairs Minister is “still hallucinating” to claim that “Aregbesola threw bomb”.
“The court will be happy to have him as a prosecution witness with his proof, now that the case has been re-opened and a demand is being made in court for the police to show the diary it claimed was found nine months after the blast in burnt-out car,” the party added.
