Niger state police on Friday arrested 22 members of rival youth groups that clashed in Maitumbi area of Minna following a reprisal attack by one of the groups.

The state Police Command spokesperson, ASP Richard Oguche, made this known to journalists in Minna.

According to him, the restive youths invaded Angwan Rogo and Challenge areas from Gbedeyin area in the state over the killing of one of them in a clash last week.

He said the youths, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded that part of the town and caused panic that made residents to scamper for safety immediately after Juma’at prayers.

Oguche said the youths killed a man who was taking his wife for delivery with machete when they ran into the violent group.

His wife, he said, gave birth minutes after the husband was murdered.

The Police spokesman also confirmed the arrest of one person in connection with the killing of a resident last week.
