Police arrest 116 armed robbers, kill 7 in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command on Monday said it arrested 116 suspected armed robbers and killed seven of them in various operations carried out in the last five months in the state.
The commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, made this known at a press conference held at Eleweran Police Headquarters, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
He said the period of the arrest covers between July and December this year.
The police chief revealed that the command recovered 45 arms and 125 ammunition from some of the suspects.
Mr. Ali also said the command arrested 205 suspected cultists, 38 suspected rapists and seven suspected kidnappers, noting that they recovered of 69 stolen vehicles and the sum of N6million.
He said 980 suspects were arrested for various offences, just as the command charged 490 cases to court.
According to him, 48 convictions were secured as 621 suspects were prosecuted.
The police boss however warned that anyone caught in possession of any explosives either for use or sale would be arrested and prosecuted, stressing that law against use of any fireworks was still on course.
“The command is mindful of the fact that its Yuletide season and many fun-seekers have various activities lined up to enjoy the season.
“Be that as it may, the command wishes to warn fun-seekers to be moderate and respect the laws of the land as anyone engaging himself in any criminal act or any act capable of causing break of public peace will not be spared.
“The command urges all groups, societies, community associations or youth groups to notify the police of any of their activities in order to monitor such and provide adequate security for all and sundry.
“Any person or group of persons who block the road or make a road inaccessible to its users, and demand for money or any item, forcefully from members of the public or road users will be treated as armed robbers,” Mr. Ali added.(Premium Times)
