Plateau State PDP Chairman Resigns
The Plateau State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Haruna Dabin, has resigned.
Dabin, who made the announcement in Jos on Tuesday at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists press centre, said: “I am now convinced that my tenure as state chairman of the party has come to an end and it is time to move on.
He addressed his resignation letter, dated September 15, 2014, to the Deputy Chairman of the Party, Raymond Dabo, who has been on acting capacity for the past four months since Dabin was suspended from his position after being accused of mis-appropriating party funds and of lack of commitments as he failed to hold meetings when due.
Dabin however, insists that his suspension was illegal as the meeting during which the decision was taken was held without his knowledge or presence as the party chairman, and that it came about after he indicated interest in contesting the 2015 governorship seat of the state. He also said his resignation was for peace and harmony to reign among party members.
“I had expressed my desire to be available to contest for election into the office of the governor of Plateau state out of deep personal conviction that as a Christian, I heard the word of the Lord for the season”
“Any leader in Plateau state today who is not mindful that the peace we enjoy now is still fragile, and thus indulges in self serving activities that will be inimical to the overall interest of peace and progress, is not worthy of the position.”
