Plateau state Govt re-trains Health Workers to Handle Ebola disease as Virus re-emerges in Sierra Leone

The Plateau state Government has trained health practitioners in the state to effectively handle any occurrence of the Ebola disease as the virus has re-surfaced in Sierra Leone.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Dr Elias Pede, who was represented by Solomon Musa, Director Administration, stated that the exercise was done to prepare the workers for any ill occurrence of the disease in the state.
He said: “This training is very key to us in the state as we need to be proactive. It will enhance health practitioners with information on case identification, referral flow, isolation, specimen collection, waste management and disposal of corpses.”
The Chairman, Sub-committee on Case Management and Diagnosis, Dr Azzuwut Martins, regarding the exercise, said:
“It will also help them to detect the disease and provide rapid and effective case management should any case be recorded in the state.
“In addition, health practitioners would be exposed to how to identify, manage patients, and dispose of waste and corpse of victims.”
He also revealed that the Plateau Specialist Hospital and Langtang General Hospital have been designated as isolation centres with transportation already arranged if any case is reported.
He, however, called on the public not to panic, but rather to imbibe protective measures such as hand washing, use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers and avoiding corpses of victims.
