PETITION FOR THE IMMEDIATE ARREST OF MR. FEMI FANI KAYODE FOR RECKLESS AND INCITING STATEMENT

The attention of the Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CPPM) has been drawn to a reckless, inciting, provocative, barbaric, crude, invitation to anarchy and threat to public peace statement of Mr. Femi Fani Kayode as published in “The Vanguard” newspaper of September 21, 2015 and other major news medium, whereby he threatened the peace and tranquility of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following the criminal kidnap of Chief Olu Falae in Ondo state on September 21, 2015.

According to the news item in the dailies, Mr. Femi Fani Kayode was reported to have asserted that “They must rescue him from these vagabonds and vandals as soon as possible before things get out of hand. Let it be clearly understood that if anything happens to him and if he doesn’t come home hale and hearty, we will hold the Federal Government responsible and there will be consequences. Those that are in power would do well to take what I have said very seriously.” (Vanguard, September 21st, 2015).‎

In as much as we condemn the kidnapping of this elder statesman in the strongest terms, we pray and call for his unconditional and safe release from his captors who should be described as criminals instead of resort to ethnic sentiments by enemies of our country and democracy, but we will not sit by and allow our sensibilities to be assaulted by the barbaric, crude, inciting, reckless, threat to public peace and provocative statements of the likes of Femi Fani Kayode who are trying to make a political capital out of this criminal act.

In the interim, we want to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for directing the Inspector general of Police to swing into immediate action to ensure his safe release from the criminals who should be arrested and prosecuted according to the laws of the land.

We equally want to urge the security agencies to live up to their constitutional responsibility by ensuring that Pa Olu Falae is rescued unharmed as quickly as possible and ensure that the criminals are brought to justice.

Therefore, in view of the above, we demand the following:

1.    Immediate arrest of Mr. Femi Fani Kayode for inciting and threat to public peace statement.

2.    Immediate arraignment of Mr. Femi Fani Kayode in court for threatening the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It is an undeniable fact that though democracy permits the freedom of speech by citizens, however, it must not be abused to undermine public peace and ridicule Nigerians in the comity of civilized people through inciting and provocative statements.
