PDP demands cancellation of Imo elections
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has called for the cancellation of the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in Imo State.
The party insisted that it was winning the elections, especially the governorship election, before manipulations crept in and officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission allegedly connived with security men and members of the All Progressives Congress to tamper with the results.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, stated this in a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Metuh said many irregularities trailed the election.
For instance, he said in Orlu East, electoral electoral officers confessed that they were forced to write result, adding that fake policemen were also involved in the malpractices.
He said, “We demand the immediate halt to the announcement in Imo, cancellation of the elections and ordering of fresh elections.
“Our reasons are as follows: Orlu East LG, the electoral officers and other officials of INEC have confessed that indeed the APC forced them, at gunpoint, to re-write the result of the LG.
“In a democracy, where they are claiming change, in Ezinifite, fake policemen were arrested and the CP of Imo State is aware of this. The fake policemen have already confessed that they are working for the APC.
“Ideato North and South: there was massive violence, swapping of ballot papers and snatching of ballots in Ideato North, Orlu and other places. There was no election in Ideato South; figures were warded.
“People of Imo have trooped out to the streets, demanding the correct result. If INEC cannot produce what they have voted for, then INEC should order a new elections.
