PDP Crisis: Hold Presidency if I’m attacked –Saraki… You are not entitled to Security detail -Police
By Busolami Idowu
Former Governor of Kwara State, Sen Bukola Saraki, has said Nigerians should hold the Presidency responsible if any attempt was made on his life. The Senator is one of the arrow heads of the PDP splinter group. His outburst is a reaction to the withdrawal of his security details since Saturday.
Meanwhile, Federal Capital Territory Police Commissioner, Femi Ogunbayode has said that Saraki and Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, the PDP factional Chairman are not entitled to police security in the first place.
The FCT commissioner of Police clarified that withdrawal has nothing to do with the recent political happening in the PDP. He said that there are some categories of public servants that are entitled to police escort based on the office they occupy none of which Saraki and Baraje belong.
It would be recalled that few days after the emergence of a faction of PDP with the two Kwara politicians playing prominent roles, their police guards were withdrawn without notice on the day the Nigerian Police sealed off the faction’s headquarters in Abuja
However, the commissioner downplayed the timing of the events saying it was just mere coincidence that the police escorts attached to Saraki and Baraje were removed at a time when the PDP is in crisis. He also said that police escort can be attached to any Nigerian after an appraisal of perceived threat to that person.
Senator Bukola Saraki who has in recent time been facing Nigerian security operatives especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over his role in the collapse of Societe General Bank and his tenure as Governor of Kwara State promised to seek legal redress following the withdrawal of his seven security personnel as well.
