PDP adopts Akinlade as consensus candidate, gets fourth term ticket
In its bid to ensure that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State remains undivided, the leadership of the party said it has decided to offer the House of Representative Committee Chairman on Science and Technology, Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade the ticket for the Yewa South/Ipokia federal constituency as a payback for his loyalty to the party.
By the virtue of the party’s decision, should Akinlade wins the February 14 National Assembly election, he would be having in his ambit a record fourth term in office representing the constituency.
Akinlade, who was a leading governorship aspirant on the party’s platform, was one of the earliest aspirant to signify interest in the Oke Mosan, Government House plum job before the eventual emergence of the party’s candidate after several squabbles.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a high-ranking member of the party said: “Akinlade has displayed high level maturity, discipline and obedience to the tenet of the party/interest of the Ogun West people, a senatorial district that has not had the opportunity to produce the governor since Ogun State was created – therefore the decision to return him to the National Assembly lower chamber in 2015 is irrevocable.
“This man has really showed that politics is not a do-or-die affair for him. Don’t forget that in November 2014, he was unilaterally adopted as Ogun West’s consensus guber candidate by a Senator Ayo Otegbola led Committee after a voting exercise where he polled the highest vote ahead of the two other aspirants from his senatorial district.
“But for reasons best known to the party, it preferred Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka as her flag bearer for Ogun 2015 guber race. Honourable Akinlade is known for performance benchmark in the delivery of democracy dividends, empowerment, Job provision and absolute loyalty to the party which the people of his federal constituency have greatly benefited from.
“With Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka now having secured the PDP’s ticket to stand as Ogun governorship candidate in the forth coming election, Hon. Akinlade and others who facilitated it have also been rewarded appropriately”, the party source added.
