Members of the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party have accused Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State of being a “bad model of democratic governance”.

The PDP accused Fashola of not preparing to conduct local government elections this year as the tenure of the current local council executives would expire on October 29 and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission should conduct elections for chairmanship and councillorship across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas in the state before then.

The party released a statement through its publicity secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, saying: “We are disappointed in Governor Fashola, the Lagos State House of Assembly and LASIEC for becoming very undemocratic and for their inability to accommodate opposition and allow fair competition.

“Imagine (the APC) shying away from local government elections and consequently depriving the electorate the right to choose their local government representatives. We are studying the trend and will surely swing into action at the expiration of the present councils’ term on 29th day of this month.”
