The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, has berated President Goodluck Jonathan for encouraging the Boko Haram insurgency due to his inaction for three years.

Bashir, while speaking in an interview with journalists, also accused the outgoing President Jonathan of viewing the insurgency by the terrorist sect as a religious war.

He said: “Initially, President Jonathan’s understanding of the sects’ phenomenon emanated from the wrong perception and wrong imputation that actually plunged the country into where it is today.

“The worst part of it is that it even took Jonathan more than three years to appreciate and understand that Boko Haram is a terrible mix of lack of education, misinterpretation of what Islam and the Quran teaches and stands for.”

He went ahead to lament the high level of corruption in President Jonathan’s administration, saying poverty, unemployment, injustice, gun-trafficking, politicisation of the military and general poor governance were encouraged.

Bashir also claimed that Nigeria’s gross domestic product, GDP, although good, did not reflect on the living condition of most citizens.

He also congratulated Gen Muhammadu on his victory at the polls, and concluded that although a herculean task lies before him, he would bring positive changes to the country.
