‎”Spanish driver seen giving thumbs-up to TV cameras after being stretchered away from accident in Practice Three‎”

Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz has been taken to the medical centre at the Russian GP after suffering a big crash in final practice.
The Spanish driver was involved in a head-on collision with the barriers at Turn 13, with his car burying itself in the Tecpro barriers, with are designed to take the force of an accident.

The FIA has confirmed that Sainz is conscious, with TV pictures showing the 21-year-old giving the thumbs-up as he was stretchered away from the scene of an accident.

The Spaniard was placed in an ambulance and taken to the circuit’s medical centre where he is currently being checked over by doctors. Initial reports suggest he has escaped serious injury.

“Carlos is conscious and he is with the doctors now and they will look at him,” Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost told Sky Sports F1. “Whether he will be able to continue the race weekend or not we don’t know yet. When he comes back we will check and then we will see.”

Replays showed Sainz lost control of his STR10 approaching the corner, hitting the inside wall before running through the run-off area.

“The car was lost under braking, but we need to find out the reason,” Tost added. “We need the car for this, but at the minute it looks like nothing was broken.”‎(Sky SPORTS).
