Oyo state SDP Candidate, Makinde, Predicts Doom for PDP after 2015 elections
The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has predicted doom for the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the party will likely lose its strength after the 2015 elections.
Makinde left the PDP in December 2014, and became the governorship candidate of the SDP. He disclosed he has no plan to return to the party.
He said: “We have turned a full cycle since the decision to move on from PDP. Our move to SDP is divine because God wants us to plug into His plan for the people of this part of the country. PDP will have to do a lot of work if they have to survive as a political party after the election. That is my own opinion based on what I have observed.
“I can tell by the present situation that people are not going to vote for the candidate of the PDP, but SDP. If you look at the voting pattern since 1999, the personality content is on the rise. The party no longer matters but the candidate. I am sure the same will happen. People want someone with track record of personal achievement to be their leader and we fit in perfectly.”
“People are ready for us because they are ready to erase poverty in the society. They cannot wait to do that and that is why this project is about 2015 and not 2019. We have failed to tackle poverty in the last two administrations. Providing mass employment that offers N10, 000 to a graduate is not what our people want in the next four years. Their message to us is clear.”
