Oyo constructs six model schools with N3. 7b
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has approved the conversion of six secondary schools in the state to model schools to create conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Solomon Olaniyonu disclosed this at a press briefing after the state executive council meeting.
Prof. Olaniyonu, who said that the schools are spread across all the geo-political zones of the state, added that the renovation and conversion of the selected school would gulp N622 million naira each, totaling the sum of N3. 7billion.
The commissioner listed the affected schools to include Anglican Secondary School, Orita-mefa, Ibadan; Baptist High School, Saki; Ogbomoso High School,
Ogbomoso; Oba Akinbiyi High School, Ibadan; Obaseeku High School, Eruwa and Abiodun Atiba Grammar School, Oyo.
Prof. Olaniyonu said each of the model schools would be equipped with 24 classrooms, administrative blocks, units of science laboratories, Intro-tech workshops, computer rooms and libraries.
In the same development, the state government has awarded contracts for the implantation of millennium development goals (MDGs), conditional grant scheme.
According to the commissioner, the contract award covered the procurement of medical equipment for hospitals in the state at the cost of N143 million.
He said that primary healthcare centres, spread across the 33 local government areas of the state, would be renovated, coupled with the procurement of essential drugs for maternity and child health care delivery.
He added that three ambulances would also be procured for the upgraded general hospitals at the cost of N30 million.
