Oyegbola-Sodipo wins Abeokuta North LGA chairmanship seat, receives Certificate of Return

The chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Abeokuta North Local Government in Ogun State, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, has been declared winner of the just concluded local government election held on Saturday, November 16th.

According to the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Mr. Babatunde Osibodu,  who announced the results, Oyegbola-Sodipo polled 15,494 votes to record a landslide victory in the election.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate polled 4, 136 to emerge as second position, while Labour Party got 552 votes.

The OGSIEC boss, while declaring the results of the chairmanship and councilorship elections, disclosed that APC won all the chairmanship seats in the 20 local government areas and the councillorship seats in the 236 wards across the state.

Mr. Osibodu, presenting the official election results in a live broadcast at the Commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, stated that a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the 20 council areas.

According to him, 19 political parties participated in both the chairmanship and councilorship elections. The parties included Accord Party (AP), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied People’s Movement (APM), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The rest were Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action People’s Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Boot Party (BP), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). 

Meanwhile, the state electoral body on Sunday (November 17), presented the Certificates of Return to the newly-elected chairman for Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo, his Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiyelolu Egbeyemi, and the 16 Councillors from the local government. 

The elected Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors from the remaining 19 local government areas also received their Certificates of Return from OGSIEC. 

The presentation of Certificates of Return held at OGSIEC headquarters, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta at 2pm prompt, and the ceremony was well-attended by political leaders, families, relations and well-wishers amidst jubilation and celebration. 

Speaking on the election, Hon. Oyegbola-Sodipo, commended the voters for turning out in large number to exercise their franchise, while also commending OGSIEC for conducting a free and fair election.

“It’s quite impressive in terms of the very significant turnout.  It’s not just a segment of the society; we can see the elderly, the young people, the males and females so it’s been quite commendable,” he asserted
