Osun Lawmakers Endorse Aregbesola For Second Term

The body of Osun Lawmakers in the National Assembly comprising of three Senators, nine House of Representatives members as well as the twenty Six members of Osun House of Assembly on Tuesday endorsed Governor Rauf Aregbesola for a second term. In an event that was graced by the masses, traditional rulers, business men and women, artisans, students and religious leaders of the State of Osun at the Freedom Park Railway Station Osogbo, the lawmakers expressed their satisfaction in the works so far done by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and declared their support for him while urging him to put himself forward for reelection.
In his opening remarks, the Speaker, State of Osun Assembly, Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salam said the State was witnessing an unprecedented developments and the desire of the lawmakers was to see to the continuation of these developments. The Speaker who was the Chairman of the event which took a form of Parliament sitting directed the affairs. Hon Ayo Omidiran, a seasoned sports administrator, representing Irewole Federal Constituency moved the motion for the reelection bid while Hon. Timothy Owoeye representing Ilesa East and West State Constituency seconded the motion.
In his acceptance speech , Ogbeni Aregbesola said he had no choice than to accept the wishes of the people but he made it clear that the electorates would determine that in 2014 and that the focus should be based on the completion of all the works that are ongoing across the State.
“As a product of collective struggle, I have been made to pass through a school that places high premium on service to the people, good governance and rule of law. I will continue to do my best with the fear of God and with the support of the people. I am happy for this show of love and support, I am also happy that the representatives of the mass of Osun people have expressed their total support for what we are doing here. We shall heed this clarion call because there is nothing more rewarding than to do the wishes of the people.”
“We will continue doing what we know how to do best, serving the people because we have placed them at the centre of our government. We know they will ultimately determine who will govern them and that’s why we will continue to be on their side. We shall finish all the ongoing projects in record time”. Aregbesola said.
He enjoined the people of the state to pray for the success of his administration and promised to deliver more dividends of Democracy at the door steps of the people of the State of Osun.
Speaking with NigerianEcho, Senator Babajide Omoworare representing Osun East Senatorial district said Aregbesola was a blessing to the State.
“The State of Osun has never had it so good and we are thanking our stars for this. Ogbeni Aregbesola has turned the State around with his giant strides and the State can never be the same again. Gone were the days of mediocrity and that’s why we the lawmakers want him again to be reelected as our Governor.” Omoworare said.
Other dignitaries at the event include the wife of the state Governor Alhaja Sherifat Aregbesola, the three Senators and nine House of Reps members from the State in the National Assembly , the 26 State House of Assembly members, Deputy Governor Chief Mrs Titilaoye Tomori, the SSG Alh Moshood Adeoti, Chief of staff Alh oyetola and the members of the State Executive Council as well as members of the traditional council of the State of Osun led by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Abidemi.
