Osun 2014: Akinwusi emerges SDP governorship candidate
Former Head of Service in Osun state, Mr. Olusegun Akinwusi has emerged as the governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the August 9, 2014 polls.
Akinwusi became the SDP sole candidate among other three contenders after fulfilling all the laid down procedures at the expiration of Friday, May 16, 2014 deadlines slated by the party’s National Office.
Other SDP governorship aspirants include Jide Ilugbo, Bibire Abolubode and Babatunde Oralusi.
Speaking on the emergent of Akinwusi as the SDP candidate on Saturday, the state party Chairman, Mr. Ademola Isola stated that the former HoS emerged based on the criteria set up by the party.
“Only Segun Akinwusi fulfilled the party’s conditions including the payment for his intention form. The deadline expires on Friday, May 16 and none of the other aspirants completed the process.
“We have fixed Friday, May 30 for his formal endorsement as our candidate and we have communicated the date to INEC. We are set to win the governorship polls and we are determined to bring better life to the people of Osun state”, he stated.
Ademola urged other political parties to play the game by the rule for a successful election on April 9 while adding that his party is set for campaign.
Akinwusi who joined politics in August 2013 after his retirement served as the HoS under former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the incumbent governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola and has focused his campaign on revival of the state economy and youth empowerment.
