Olanusi disregards Impeachment, awaits Cour Ruling

Sharing is caring!

The impeached deputy governor of Ondo state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, has played down his impeachment by the State House of Assembly, calling it a “huge joke.”

Olanusi’s lawyer, Oluwole Kayode, released a statement on behalf of the impeached deputy governor stating that the lawmakers had no right to take such action as an April 23 court order had ruled against it while the case awaited a final ruling.

He said, “Another action in respect of the same office and the impeachment process is pending in court and will come up on May 7, 2015.

“I think public office holders and people who are put in positions to defend the Nigerian constitution must be law abiding.

“In the light of this disobedience to a court order and the impunity displayed in the course of the impeachment proceedings, the deputy governor is on solid ground. The action is illegal and a juge hoke.”

Olanusi’s impeachment followed the submission on Monday of a report by the seven-man panel constituted by Chief Judge Olasehinde Kumuyi.

The impeachment had been deemed impending since about a month ago when he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
