Ogun 2015: ‘Our regrets over Amosun’

As the next general elections draw near, youths in Ogun State, who are yet to attain the voting age of 18 years, have expressed regrets that they may not participate in returning Governor Ibikunle Amosun to office for a second term.
A cross-section of the youths, who spoke with Daily Sun said Amosun would have been sure of their votes for his outstanding performance in office within a short time in office.
Kehinde Bamidele, a 14-year-old female student of Iganmode Grammar School, Ota, cited the Ilo-Awela Road dualisation as an example of Amosun’s midas touch in the state.
According to her, the road was marked for construction by a former administration, regretting that “after some structures were demolished, the project was abandoned for eight years.”
Also, Dayo Odulana, a mechanic apprentice in Sagamu, told our reporter that, “with the reigning peace in the community that creates conducive atmosphere for business to thrive, Amosun would have earned my vote,” lamenting however that, “the only hindrance is my age.” Dayo clocked 17 years on June 12, this year.
Lawal Tanwa, a tricycle operator in Totoro, Abeokuta, was also bitter that he would not vote in the February 2015 governorship election in Ogun State as he would be of voting age in March.
According to him, Amosun had so much re-organised the road network in the city that, “many indigenes living outside the metropolis miss the way to their family houses whenever they embark on their periodic visits home.”
Also speaking with our reporter in Ifo, headquarters of Ifo Local Government of the state, Mathew Adagun, a bus conductor, asked rhetorically: “What will other contestants be telling us when they come around to canvass for our votes?”
The 17 years old boy warned that “some people would be stoned if they come here to make some bogus and frivolous claims,” expressing sadness however, that “my age will not allow me to vote, else, I will vote the governor with achievement that is as tall as his cap.”
