Obasanjo To Jimoh Ibrahim: Resign As Chair of Air Nigeria Or Be Disgraced Out
The crisis rocking Air Nigeria took a new twist at the weekend when the Chief Promoter of the airline and former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, allegedly threatened to disgraced his erstwhile god son Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, out of office if he didn’t resign as Chairman of Air Nigeria. Former Nigerian President who is said to be the real owner of Air Nigeria, according to sources close to NigerianEcho, has reportedly brought into the country three foreigners from one of the Asian countries to take over the running of the airline. The embattled Ibrahim has been enmeshed in a financial crisis that is almost consuming the airline. Sources say Ibrahim diverted a loan meant for Air Nigeria to a small West African Country to establish a bank.
It would be recalled that former President Obasanjo had, during his tenure’s privatisation exercise acquired the defunct Nigeria Airways using Ibrahim as his front. Jimoh Ibrahim who until then was just a private local lawyer in Ondo State, largely unknown in legal and business community in Nigeria was also used to acquire other Federal government establishments like transcorp, Nicon Insurance, to mention but a few.
