Nigerian striker, Obafemi Martins has announced his official retirement from international football after a decade of playing on the national level.

The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United star, who made his debut against Republic of Ireland, said he had to retire dues to lack of playing time with the national team because he does not have a good relationship with his teammates in the Super Eagles setup.

The Seattle Sounders star said: “No, I am done with my national team; I will not go there any more. I do not have good relationships with some companions.

“If they do not want me anymore, patience. I love my country, I have given so much. But there are problems and although I am called up, I do not go.”

The 30-year-old scored 18 goals for the Super Eagles in 39 caps. He has not been called up to join the national team in 21 months.
