Nominations for Brits Awards Announced
Nominations for the Brits Awards holding in London on February 19 have been announced and Pop act, Ellie Goulding leads the pack with 5 nods while Bastille and Disclosure follow with four nods each.
Dance collective Rudimental have three nods, as have One Direction. Two-time Brit winner, David Bowie is up for best British 
male and best album. New artists feature strongly on this year’s longlist, with London Grammar, John Newman, Lorde and Haim all receiving their first nominations.
Arctic Monkeys, up for two awards, will open the ceremony at the O2. Other acts due to perform include Bruno Mars, up for best international male, Rudimental and Pharrell Williams, who will perform with Funk legend, Nile Rodgers.
Ellie Goulding is nominated twice in the best single category, for the dance-pop anthem Burn and her collaboration with DJ Calvin Harris, I Need Your Love. The same tracks are also up for best British video, which has been resurrected this year having last been presented to So Solid Crew in 2002. She is also up for female solo artist, alongside Birdy, Jessie J, Laura Marling and Laura Mvula.
London four-piece Bastille, one of last year’s biggest new bands, are up for best single, best British group, breakthrough artist and best album for their debut Bad Blood. Disclosure, formed by brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, are also nominated in the same four categories.
Bowie is up for best male solo artist, alongside Jake Bugg, Tom Odell, John Newman and Mercury Prize winner James Blake; and also for best British album – considered to be the night’s main award – for The Next Day but faces stiff competition from Bastille, Disclosure, Arctic Monkeys and Rudimental.
