No government has surpassed us in workers’ welfare – Ajimobi
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has scored his administration high in the area of workers’ welfare, saying that no government had done so much for the civil servants in the history of the state.
The governor said this while addressing members of the state branch of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians’ Association (NATA) who were on a solidarity visit to him at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan on Wednesday.
Aside the recent increase in workers’ salaries, the governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ismail Olalekan Alli, said that civil servants had in the last two years been enjoying free transportation to and fro work.
Governor Ajimobi also noted that several thousands of workers had been made to undergo training, both within and outside the country, while also promising to extend technical training to members of the association.
Part of the workers’ welfare, he said, was the raising of the bar of primary school teachers who are university graduates from Grade Level 14, a feat which he said was unprecedented in the history of the state.
He also said that the ongoing environmental sanitation and urban renewal programme of his administration were aimed at ensuring the general cleanliness of the state and the well-being of the people, urging them to endure the little inconveniences that might accrue from the programme..
Meanwhile, the governor has also called on the people of the state to take the advantage of the extension of the voters’ registration exercise to get themselves registered.
He made the call while addressing members of the state chapter of the Association of Engine Oil and Lubricant Dealers who were on a solidarity visit to him at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan on Wednesday.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, said that obtaining the voters’ cards would give them the ample opportunity to exercise their civic rights and choose people of their choice to represent them during the 2015 general elections.
“I want to appeal to the good people of Oyo State, particularly those who have yet to get registered, to take the advantage of the continuous voter registration to get their voters’ cards. It is their opportunity to be part of the process to elect their leaders in the forthcoming general elections,’’ he said.
Governor Ajimobi also reiterated his administration’s commitment at ensuring improved living conditions of the people of the state through provision of adequate social infrastructure such as water, good roads, security and health care services.
Part of these efforts, he said, was the rehabilitation of the Asejire Waterworks which had been abandoned for the past 17 years, adding that Ibadan and its environs had, since the inauguration of the facility, been enjoying regular water supply.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Kola Aderibigbe commended the achievements of the governor, especially in the area of security, stressing that the people of the state had in the last three years been sleeping with their two eyes closed and moving about with fear of molestation.
He described Governor Ajimobi as a grassroots leader who had the interest of the people at heart, adding that his efforts at ensuring the welfare of the people during the last Ramadan fasting would continue to linger in the memories of the people.
Aderibigbe pledged the continued support of members of the association for the realization of the second term bid of the governor.
