NLC to hold NEC Meeting on Feb 18
The Nigeria Labour Congress will have a National Executive Committee meeting on February 18 in order to try to resolve the ongoing electoral dispute in the congress.
The General Secretary of the NLC, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, announced this in an electronic mail on Friday, saying that the new date was decided when the National Administrative Council of the Congress met on Thursday.
Ozo-Eson also said that the irregularity detected in the ballot papers was caused by the Credentials Committee which supervised the election, the issue was insignificant and could have been resolved through votes invalidation.
According to him, the elections had started peacefully but some delegates who discovered the irregularities reacted in a wrong way as they thought the errors had been deliberately included in the ballots to rig the election in favour of a particular candidate.
He stated that executives of the congress were ready to co-operate with all the parties involved so as to ensure that the dispute was resolved as quickly as possible to prevent the current elected officials from exceeding their stipulated tenure.
